NPHC was formed as a permanent organization on May 10, 1930 on the campus of Howard University in Washington, DC. NPHC promotes interaction through forums, meetings, and other mediums for the exchange of information. Additionally, NPHC engages its members in cooperative programming and initiatives through various activities and functions.
The National Pan-Hellenic Council of Northern Virginia (NoVA NPHC) was established in 1966 and has grown to be one of the most active chapters in the national council. Each year, the NOVA NPHC grants two $1,000 scholarship awards to two graduating high school seniors who plan to attend an accredited four-year college or university upon graduation.
